What is Photofestival in Ouglich? What is it interesting for?

The festival was launched in 2007 on the initiative of the Department for Tourism and International Relations of the Administration of the Ouglich Municipal District. The original name of the photo festival - "Ouglich - the face of the Russian province", it was conceived as a project designed to popularize the small tourist city of the Golden Ring of Russia. But the festival quickly went beyond the established framework - there was an annual steady increase in the number of participants who wanted to show themselves and learn from others; strengthened the real interest of photoaless professionals to teach others and / or to show oneself ...

Now the festival in Ouglich firmly occupies a leading position in the photo-festive movement of Russia.

The purpose of the festival is to create a central platform for Russia, which unites amateurs and professionals in the field of photo art and photojournalism, which gives an opportunity to express themselves to young talents.

The festival is passes for five days. Traditionally, the festival program includes:

 - training program: lectures, master classes, creative meetings with leading Russian photographers;

- professional portfolio-review;

- photo exhibitions - winners of prestigious International and Russian photo contests and photo awards.

- blitz competition for a given topic;

- correspondence photo contest;

- оpen jury of the competition works;

A distinctive feature of the "Photoparad in Ouglich" is a friendly atmosphere, which has a pleasant conversation. This largely explains the fact that 75% of the participants return to the festival year after year.

We are waiting for you at the "Photopard in Ouglich"!  Welcome!

The XI Photo Festival "PHOTOPARAD in Ouglich" was completed. About 700 participants, masters and guests from more than 50 cities of Russia and abroad took part in the event. More than 100 events took place in Ouglich over five days of the program. 18 photo exhibitions were shown, more than 70 lectures and master classes from famous photographers and curators were held. A separate program of ArtProstrannost within the framework of the festival was presented for the first time by the general partner of the festival company Olympus. For the participants, theoretical lectures and practical workshops on reportage, studio and macro photography were held: the winner of WordPressPhoto in 2016, the staff photographer of MIA "Russia Today" Vladimir Pesnya, the famous macro photographer Irina Kozorog and others.

Lectures and master-classes of the festival were held in four directions: "Documentary Photography", "Art Photography", "Travel Photography" and "Classics of Russian Photography".

Ekaterina Bogachevskaya, curator of the program "documentary photography":

"The documentary program of this year was conceived - and I´m very glad that in the end it turned out - very diverse. Both the practical and the lecture part covered a large number of different topics: shooting on the streets of the city using a different visual language and searching through the hero, working with multimedia projects, writing texts for stories and submitting projects to competitions and festivals, working with the book format, selection of frames for the series, finding your own voice in photography and much more. Quiet, but at the same time very constructive was the discussion about ethics in photography, which raised issues of manipulation and falsification, the relationship between the photographer and the hero, the crisis of trust, the location of the border between "permissible" and "impossible", in addition, each of the participants shared examples of personal practice.

Alla Mirovskaya, curator of the direction "art photography"

The theme of the art direction was that it often remains in the shadows, especially on events of international scale. How much is reflected in the small, how the global events and processes are comprehended by the authors of projects through the prism of personal history, personal memory, personal identity. Also in support of one of the main themes of the festival, we touched on the theme of the place, the search for the DNA of the territory and its connection with it. Our exhibitions were devoted to this, which took place in a wonderful old house on the bank of the Volga - the House of Friendship, where the exhibition halls are located on the first floor, and on the second floor there are the workshops of the artists who live in Ouglich.

Within the educational program of the art, were held three workshops, more than ten lectures and master classes. Big interest from the participants of the festival was caused by the workshop Anastasia Markelova, dedicated to working with the family archive, the methods of working with it, its structuring, contextualization, correct processing and storage. Unfortunately, I personally could not attend it because of other events, although I really wanted to. I know from the stories that the participants brought fantastic materials to the workshop that are waiting for their time to tell us their stories.

Also managed to communicate profoundly with the participants of the festival on the return of film photography in Pavel Kosenko´s master class "Zhivaya plenka", talk about how to achieve in the design of photographic prints of museum quality, to play with the old technology in the master class of Anatoliya Grina.

The participants of the lectures somehow particularly warmly thanked us for the lecture on the landscape of modern photography from the point of view of the authors - photographers and artists, whom we conducted together with Lena Holkina and Zhenya Molodtsov. It was about metamodernism as an actual definition of the state of contemporary art, supported by examples of concrete projects. It was quite unexpected and pleasant that this topic aroused interest and a desire to learn more.

Maria Plotnikova, curator of the travel photo direction

When the organizers of Photoparad called me to supervise the program for travel photography, I began to learn the meaning of the term travel. I´m a sports and street photographer, and travel - these are the churches and sunsets over the river. At the Photoparad during a heartfelt public conversation about travel photography, all the invited masters came to the conclusion that the travel was a general and to some extent a pop name. That there are different genres that fit under the term "travel": the same street, documentary, animalistic, landscape photography, reportage.
